Why Vitex essential oil? According to Greek mythology, the Greek goddess Hera, a protector of marriage, was born under a vitex bush. Native to the Mediterranean area, this perennial shrub has been used for centuries. Monks would chew on the vitex parts to help them maintain their vows of celibacy, which offers a clue to its common name: chaste tree or chaste berry. Vitex twigs have also been traditionally used to weave baskets. The vitex essential oil is produced with the berries of the plant.
