About Turkey Rhubarb? Not to be confused with garden rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum L.), turkey rhubarb is said to be most powerful when grown at altitudes over 9,000 feet. The roots and rhizomes are dug from six to 10-year-old plants in the fall or spring.

Cautions and Contraindications: Do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Do not use with kidney stones, intestinal obstructions, abdominal pain of unknown origin, or any inflammatory condition of the intestines such as appendicitis, colitis, Crohn's disease, or irritable bowel.
It should not be used by children younger than 12 years or for more than eight to 10 days.
Turkey rhubarb should be used with caution when you have a history of kidney stones.
The AHPA recommends the following labeling: Read and follow directions carefully. Do not use if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain because (name of the herb) may worsen these conditions and be harmful to your health. Consult your physician if you have frequent diarrhea or if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition.

Formula:
INFUSION OF TURKEY RHUBARB:
Turkey rhubarb Rheum palmatum root: 1 ounce
Purified water: 2 pints
Vegetable glycerin: 1 pint
Bring the water to boil. Pour the boiling water over the herb and steep for 20 minutes. Strain and cool. Add vegetable glycerin. Bottle, label, and store in a cool place. Use four to six tablespoons up to three times a day when desired.
