Alfalfa: Medicago sativa (L.)
Why Alfalfa Leaf? Alfalfa, a clover-esque perennial, reaches its roots deep into the earth and draws up rich nutrients. Alfalfa is grown to support livestock grazing, and when sprouted is commonly referred to as the “Queen of Sprouts.”
Quality Assured: This herb is Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth and grown in the U.S.A. without the use of genetic engineering, artificial fertilizers, or pesticides. Our experts here at the Apothecary Shoppe personally evaluate every herb through taste, touch, and smell to assure that you are receiving the best botanicals suitable for use.
Wellness Support: Alfalfa is said to contain high amounts of nutrients and minerals. Alfalfa supports a wholesome, holistic diet. The fresh tops of alfalfa can be used as a green food in salads, served slightly steamed, or made into tea. Mix the tea with an aromatic herb such as peppermint to improve its flavor, which is somewhat “grassy.”

ALFALFA TEA
Alfalfa Medicago sativa herb: 1 ounce
Lemon balm Melissa officinalis leaves: 1⁄2 ounce
Peppermint Mentha ×piperita leaves: 1⁄2 ounce
Place your herbs into a ceramic or glass teapot. Bring the water to a boil. Do not use an aluminum pot. Turn off the heat and pour the water over the herb. Cover the pot and let steep for five to 10 minutes. Strain the tea in a non-aluminum strainer and then drink. Use immediately. Do not store. Honey, lemon, or milk can be added, although milk tends to mask the delicate flavors. Do not use honey with infants younger than one-year-old as there have been reports of botulism spores in honey and this can be fatal in infants.
